Indian Cyclists Network

Have enrolled myself for the  "Mumbai cyclothon-Green Ride" , a 15 Kms ride. Surprisingly, the registration centre at "Landmark" mall in Phoenix high street  at Parel  have no idea of the rules, regulation and even conduction of the event. They just collect the money and register your name and are still awaiting details from the "Mumbai Cyclothon Sponsors". I paid Rs 382 for registration, yet totally unaware of the actual place of registration and also the rules and regulations for "Non-Professional" competitors. At the age of 50 i am just competing for the "spirit of the Games", hence the "green Ride-15Kms" having  spent a life-time cycling and utterly pleased that during my own life-time a "Tour De Mumbai" has been organised on a professional basis.I have personally read the biography of Lance.Armstrong, one of my hero's and personally recommend the book to all readers as its not only about cycling but the depictions of  human will and efforts to overcome life's hurdles in acieving success. The "Tour-De-Mumbai" is scheduled for Sunday(13-2-2011) and all competitors have to personally register themselves at the "Start Venue" on 11/12th Feb  as per the regulations written on the competition form. The sales staff of "Landmark Mall" told me to contact them after 18/1/2010 to get the actual details of the conduction, start venue as well as formalities for the race day.Could fellow members please inform on the formalities since i am sure that manny bloggers would be participating in these cycle races.Have wonderfull memories in photographs and video  of the first "Mumbai Cyclothon-2010" which i attended as a spectator/ photographer at the  Bandra Reclamation grounds, a very carnival atmosphere. This year i made up my mind to compete and experience the actual passion of a cycle race at the young age of 50! Hope others in the "Veterans Cycling age Group" would join me to spread cycling awareness and its benifits to society in curtailing pollution as well as experiencing nature.

A big thank you Johann.Daniels for a very healthy discussion and clearing of doubts regarding the "Mumbai-Cyclothon-2011".The value of the "Internet" and blogging sites like has been realised, now only hope "Cycling" as a hobby as well as a pollution  free form of transport increases amongst  we Indians although the present road and traffic conditions are a definite deterrent to "commuter cyclists". .

This is for information of  Farhaan and Malcolm as also to other cyclists wanting to participate in "Mumbai_cyclothon-2011".Thanks to Jahann.daniels that i managed to find the  "M.E.T Grounds" in Bandra Reclamaition locality. The "M.E.T Ground" is located adjacent to the famous "Lilaavat Hospital and the "Registration Booths" for "Mumbai Cyclothon-2011"  based in a corner of this huge ground. You can get youself registered on the spot at the booths by paying the respective "registration fees" or if you have paid the same in advance through "Credit Card' or  cash through "Landmark outlets" then have to produce your "registration Voucher" at these counters for "Final Registration".You will be handed your participating nos along with a  T-shirt and a "carry-Bag", good gifts for remembrance.I will be participating in the 28 Kms ride and not 15 kms "Green ride" as earlier planned, decided to try my fitness at age 50 and  my participating nos is "3510".Please don't misplace your nos otherwise you won't be allowed to participate in the competition. The internet has really  made communication and the World a much smaller place to live in and it was nice meeting you personally  at the "M.E.T Grounds" Mr Johann.Daniels.Met a few of bloggers at the "M.E.T Grounds, feel nice to know that cycling as a sport is emerging amongst Mumbai's young generation.

Thanks Johann.Daniels, have finally obtained the information regarding registration and participation in the "Mumbai Cyclothon-2011" after great difficulty and inquiries. As mentioned, i personally went to "Landmark" at High Street Phoenix and paid Rs 382 for registration after filling in the form. Its bizarrely strange but true that the "Landmark" salespersonnel staff had no information of the conduction of the race or the procedure after registration.I had to go there twice and was finally told on the phone to contact and call at(022) 4488 1000, the same as adressed by the website.

The format is as follows :                                                                                                                 1) all participants who have registered by paying cash at "Landmark" retail outlets are to personally visit the "Mumbai cyclothon stall"  at "Bandra Reclamation" on 11th  or 12th between 1000hrs to 1800 hrs for registration and rules, regulations, etc.

2) The Forms should be brought along for registration confirmation.

Request the organisers to kindly make the participants registration procedure simpler for novices and first timers to participate.Manny  lower economic strata of society participants would find it difficult to participate due to the lack of simple registration and participating instructions. Manny owners of cycles from lower economic backgrounds  are not proficient with computers and given Mumbai's population, wouldn't be surprised if a future Indian international cyclist emerges from either the slums or lesser prividged sections of society.Events like the "Mumbai Cyclothon" create a stage for the discovery of talent, especially in the World's second most populous country.
