10th January 2011 Pune:
Mountain Bike Riders from Pune to compete in International Competition.
3 Mountain Bike Riders from MTB Club: "Ride 2026 - ORBEA" are all set to take part
in an International Mountain Bike Event called 'Extreme Downhill 2011' to be
held on the 15th of January on the outskirts of Kathmandu in Nepal. This event
is organised by the Nepal Cycling Association and is a Championship Series.
The event is a Downhill Mountain Bike Race in the Shivapuri National Park and
the length of the course is 2.45 Kms and the Start Point is at 6069 ft above
sea level with a descent of about 1700 ft till the end point.
Downhill biking (DH) is a gravity-assisted time trial mountain biking event.
Riders race against the clock, usually starting at intervals of 30 seconds
(seeded from slowest to fastest), on courses which typically take two to five
minutes to complete. Riders are timed with equipment similar to that used in
Downhill skiing. The placing is determined by the fastest times to complete the
course; races are often won by margins of under a second. As the name of this
discipline implies, downhill races are held on steep, downhill terrain with no
extended climbing sections, resulting in high speed descents with extended air
time off jumps and other obstacles
The Riders from Pune are Piyush Chavan 15, Anand Sadana 17 and Vinaykumar Menon Age 26.
