Good fun riding to Marine Drive yesterday...
Finally got some time off client projects and decided to go for a quick morning ride yesterday. Since Friday was Ram Navami, there was far less traffic on the roads. Weather was pretty decent too (till about 9am). I left at 6.15 am from Santacruz.
Since I'd already ridden to the central, western, eastern and northern suburbs, South Mumbai was the only way to go. I initially planned to cycle to Haji Ali and back. But once I reached there, it felt like a shame not to go all the way till Marine Drive. At marine drive, I was pleasantly surprised to see at least 7 separate groups of cyclists there! Easily 40 cyclists in all. Felt great! Lots of hand waving and acknowledgement of fellow riders along the way. Also saw a group of 3 road bikers there ... they zzzzipped past :)
On the way back from Marine Drive, I took a left turn from Wilson College and went up Walkeshwar. This part of the ride was awesome purely for the views of the Queen's necklace. Although the road was at a steep incline, I cleared it easily thanks to the smooth roads. From Malabar Hill, I descended to Breach Candy and connected to Mahalaxmi via the US embassy route.
Haji Ali was my next stop where I had a tall glass of watermelon juice at the famed Juice Centre. Roads were empty so I could peacefully park the bike. Typically that place is PACKED. It was lovely to ride in this area with hardly any traffic (people or vehicles) whatsoever.
From there, I stuck to the worli/dadar/maim route and reached mahim church in no time. I took a little detour at Bandra reclamation before heading back to Santacruz along the western express highway. Reached home at 9.15am so the ride time was around 3 hours. Can't believe I waited this long to cycle to marine drive :) Was a good one.
By the way, I tracked the entire ride on GPS using my iPhone. Here's the link - http://bit.ly/9GC2E
Tomorrow, I'll most probably explore Colaba, Cuffe Parade, Fort, Bellard Estate etc before heading back via the eastern express highway. Not yet finalised. Again depends on my work which is more unpredictable than the weather :)
