"Fomas Racer Cycle":- A personal opinion.

Extremely pleased with the purchase of a Rs 4800 "Fomas geared racer" . The cycles tyres V/V/'s are excellent, akin to 'Motorcycle tube v/v's",and its a month since purchase that i haven't replinished the "tyre air"! I previously owned a "Hero Hawk" ordinary racer which served me faithfully for over a decade, my tourist vehicle in Bangalore and Mumbai. The only defect with this cheap and strong cycle was its outdated "tyre design" which got punctured frequently, hence, besides inconvenience, it also cost me a lot of tyre renewals. Cycles in India have really improved in design and innovation, the only hurdle is now the public road acceptance in peak hour traffic as also special "Parking lots" for cycles.we Indians are now getting the best of cycles on par with " First world country's" something unthinkable over a decade ago when i purchased my "Hero Hawk". Hope the "Post Economic Liberalisation-1992" cycling generation produces a "Tour De France" competitor from India in the not too distant future. Still better, India holding an annual International cycling road race annually with "Prize money" equivalent to the millionaire sport that cycling actually belongs to in the developed economies.

Just filled air @ 30 P.S.I into my "Fomas Cycle' after over 1 1/2 months since its purchase on 23-7-2010!. Even my "Bajaj wind-125" cc motorcyle's air doesn't last that long without refilling, excellent and hope it remains that way. If i possessed this type of cycle about 3 decades ago then i might have been more famous as a "Professionalcyclist " , but, thats destiny. I envy the younger generation who intend taking cycling as a sport, fantastic, India is on par with International standards in the availaibility of "Cycles", only hinderance is the cost factor for "Professional bicycles". As they say, its never too late in life to enjoy or experience something new. At least my early morning cycling rides would be a pleasure of "Free back riding" along with nature.

Dear Rudolph, good to read your opinion on Fomas, I'd have to agree with you that the quality of cycles has really improved and now we get almost the best of the cycles in India. The 2 areas where I think there is huge scope for improvement is the development of dedicated cycling lanes (hope this happens in our life time) and the availability of easy finance to purchase high end bicycles.

Nice blog - except that cycling isnt a big money sport for anyone except maybe 10-15 riders in the world.

I'd suggest putting air in your tires more often. Use a gauge, find your optimal pressure and fill. I fill my tires daily, before each ride... usually have to add in 10psi each time.
