Indian Cyclists Network

I would like to know how many of you had experience of being denied entry to mall because you were riding a cycle. I recently had sour experience being denied entry into parking lot of RCity (Ghatkopar-Mumbai).(I had been there to pick a new laptop from CROMA store).

I am surprised by management's policy. While the security personnel refused a reason I am sure security of visitors cannot be a reason.

Wonder if RCity Management is listening to this!

I think we need to take this matter a bit seriously especially with the R-City Security and get this stuff sorted

Yes R-City Mall Ghatkopar really sucks in parking terms as even I was Denied for the parking i had to head home to park my cycle. i asked to speak to the management but the Security personnels were very rude and reluctant to get thier manager.

But Oberoi Mall in Goregoan allowed us to park the cycles at a 2 wheeler cost that sounded a bit good ...

Well its disappointing but let me tell you that some malls & public places do refuse cycles as in the past cycles have been used by terrorist to plant bombs, unfortunately the security guys at most of the mall are not trained at any kind of bomb detection, they just check cars & frisk people because they have to do it and they wont get paid if they dont do so.

While we cyclist have to face the brunt of it but i guess in the end security matters.

Hi Navin,

Sorry to know you had to face this too. Fe of us had faced exactly this at R-City(as Mehul posted). The thugs acting as security apparently make their own mind about this (blame it on the indian mentality of cycles looked "down" upon as a poor mans transport)  Unfortunately the management gets a bad name out of such idiotic acts (by the security) even when they may not really be at fault.

Here is the incident that i posted out:

Yes itl take us a while until we get all malls to allow cycles.

And that will happen only when our number grows and when a cycle is given the same importance as much as a car or bike.....

On the other hand i would like to share that ive never had an issue with parking my cycle at Inorbit Mall,Malad...

theyve always been welcoming to me and the other cyclists who visit regularly whenever we wanna grab a donut at MOD's.Instead they also provide a token and ask u to fill in your details in a register

Itll take a while for the Cycle to gain the much more deserved respect, untill then all we can do is extend our green family and keep cycling more!!!

Hey Navin,

A couple of months back a bunch of us cyclists got together at RCity Mall to meet Anoop. I faced the same issue as you did, the security guards at the gate did not allow me to take my bicycle inside. They said that cycles are not allowed for security reasons.

What I did was ask him to give the number of the security in-charge of the mall. (Just do this part confidently, and may I add, a bit arrogantly.) Renny then called up the person and got the permission to get my cycle inside. I was given the permission to park the bicycle in the parking lot with the other two wheelers.
