I left Darjeeling at the beginning of October and am now about halfway through my cycle journey down the east of India, having passed through Mirik, Malda and Gaur (wonderful old temples!), murshidabad, bishnupur and puri. I'm just about to leave Vizag, having covered about 1750 km, with 1500 to go to reach Kanyakumari.
I am a Canadian man, 60 years old, haven't cycled for twenty years, and this has been a good test of my strength. But a fabulous trip. You can read my blog at http://dmorg.org.
When I reach the southern tip of India, my cycling trip will be over. And I will be selling my cycle, a Trek 3900 (does not have disc brakes!), together with panniers (Vaude Karakorum, $100), tool kit (approx $100), wireless cycle computer ($40), handlebar bag ($40), combination flat/cleat pedals, spare tubes, etc., for around 20,000 rupees. The new cost is about 55,000 rupees so this is a great deal for someone interested in getting into touring at a discounted price. The bike will be used, a bit dusty and need a tune up probably. It has a 19.5 inch frame, suitable for someone 5'9" - 6'0" (I'm 5'8" but like a large frame for touring.)
Everything except the tools was in new condition at the beginning of October.
If you're interested, and can be in the Trivandrum/Varkala area around 15 December, mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
There is a further 25% discount for US (300 dollars) or UK (200 pounds) cash.
Note: I have a leather Brookes saddle that I would like to keep so if you're interested, bring a saddle! If you really want the saddle, that will be an extra $100 (5,000 rupees)
