Since you stay near sea rusting is gonna be a problem..You cannot stop that process but can minimise the damage caused by it..
1. Clean the bike regularly with a dry cloth. will take not more than 5 minutes but will remove any dirt which can soak moisture and cause rusting.
2. while cleaning bike clean wheel rims and spokes. If rim gets rusted on sides (where brake pads make contact) the brake pads will get worn out very fast and braking will be suffer. So this is very impotant.
3. Keep the freewheel (rear small chain ring) adequately lubricated with good quality oil. Dont use the cycle mechanic oil as they use some thick oil which gets clogged with all dirt after few days. It will not only cause rusting but also affect your ride. Better buy machine oil(for sewing machine/cycles/etc) from hardware shop.
4. Service bike every 3 months. Will cost 150 approx if no component damage.
5. If the cycle is not in use still make it a point to inflate tires once in a week so that there no rusting on wheel rims from inner side. This will also improve tire durability.
6. If there is rusting on frame or mudguard dont worry as its just cosmetic. Give more attention to components which are important while riding.
hi..guess you looking for a bike to start riding..when i started riding even i weighed on higher side about 85kg..
the best way to start is get a Indian bike which will be quite strong enough..also by keep air pressure within range will make things easier..start riding regularly with gradual increase in riding distance..after 3-4 months you will see improvement in your fitness and weight reduction too..then jut sell off Indian bike and go for any better bike that you wish..also then you wont need to think of 'sturdy' bike..I followed all these things..now i am selling off my old 'sturdy bike' next week and get a road bike instead..Happy riding...
Hi..good you started cycling regularly..it would surely help to improve your fitness and as you said the ride itself would be great fun..
morning rides not happening of late as i had accident and fractured my collar bone..so no cycling till 10th feb for me..if you wanna do morning rides and want good partner i will do that for you..
